When being a Family Friend is more than enough

Over the last 9 months, we’ve had the privilege of being a secondary host family to three of the sweetest little boys (stepping in to help out the primary host family).

This has been the biggest blessing for us, knowing we are doing something that really counts in helping to keep families intact, but I hardly have the words to describe what it’s done for our grandchildren. We have three under the age of 5 and they live very close to us so have been actively involved in the hostings.  In my wildest dreams I can’t imagine a more direct, meaningful way to not just talk to them about how Jesus has called us to demonstrate Biblical hospitality but to model it right in front of them.  We have no way of knowing the long-term impact of them learning this at such a young age.

We act as Family Friend to the little boy that we hosted for 3 weeks and we still get to see him for play dates and sleepovers so he is definitely part of the family. When I see the interactions between the boys and how much they love each other, my heart swells with emotion.  I also love the fact that the children’s song – “Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight.” – is REAL to them.

God definitely blessed us when we learned about Safe Families and we pray for other opportunities to continue making a difference.
